A PARENT SHOULD

  • Demonstrate respect for the caregiver, her work and her home.

  • Communicate with caregiver regularly and work in partnership with the caregiver around their goals for the child and the child's development and progress

  • Advise caregiver of any changes/events in the family's life which may affect the child's well being or behaviour

  • Comply with the policies of the family child care.

  • Provide any agreed upon items as needed (e.g. clothing, diapers, food).

  • Advise caregiver as soon as possible if arrival or departure time will be earlier or later than usual

  • Inform caregiver of any changes to contact information for parents and/or emergency contacts.

  • Advise caregiver where parents will be if not at the usual place of employment/study

  • Bring concerns about their child or the child care arrangements to the caregivers attention.

  • Advise caregiver as soon as possible about any planned or unplanned absences from care.

  • Make all payments for care promptly.

  • Give caregiver the agreed upon notice if the child care arrangement is to end.

A PROVIDER SHOULD

  • Demonstrate respect for the family as the center of the child's life and the parent's role as the primary influence in the child's life

  • Provider quality care for the children including: a safe environment; nutritious meals and snacks; good hygiene practices; rest and fresh air;  developmentally stimulating and appropriate activities; positive methods of child guidance and a warm caring environment.

  • Communicate with parents regularly and work in partnership with parents around their goals  for the child's development and progress.

  • Be available to parents if there is anything related to the child or the childcare arrangements that they wish to discuss.

  • Bring any problems/concerns related to the child or the childcare arrangements to the parents attention.

  • Protect the confidentiality of client-families.

  • Advise parents as soon as possible about any planned vacation time or unplanned absences (e.g. illness, family crisis).

  • Advise parents about any increases in rates at least one month before the increase comes into effect.

  • Provide parents with a receipt for all child care payments.

  • Give parents the agreed upon notice if the day care arrangement is to end.
